To see all effects and features of my wonderful Web sites
(Selection see below)
, the following conditions in the browsers Internet Explorer, Firefox, Safari, Chrome or Opera must be
fulfilled:
Javascript:
Why must JavaScript be enabled to show my Web pages?
a) JavaScript is a programming language that is interpreted and executed from the browser during the download
of the Web page. JavaScript makes a website alive and dynamic, because the visitor receives a variety
of options to change the content and the appearance of a page according to his own choice.
The danger of catching a computer virus is low, because JavaScript can make no deep interventions
into the system nor stores any data on the "guest-PC" (exception: cookies: see above)
b) Some "sexy" features were taken over on my Web pages, which are entirely programmed in JavaScript.
Here I would like to thank their developers:
- Accordion Content Script
The "accordion menu", used on this site from
Dynamic Drive DHTML (www.dynamicdrive.com)
- Tooltips
Special thanks to the unfortunately died Walter Zorn.
- Dragdrop
Another software by Walter Zorn.
- Slideshow
A simple slideshow for a small number of pictures.
Andreas Berger (www.bretteleben.de)
- Amazon Drop-in Content Box
Info box with a curtain effect used in the slideshow.
Dynamic Drive DHTML (www.dynamicdrive.com)
- JQZoom Image Magnifier
Used to zoom the map of Crete.
Developed by Renzi Marco (www.mind-projects.it)
- EMFF Player
A fine and small flashplayer for MP3 files.
Developed by Marc Reichelt
c) Interesting useful informations provides the integration of "Google Map", which I added in the photo
gallery on all sides of the village and most of the photos. The small globe leads over "Map" to the exact
recording location.
The API of "Google Map" and the called programs behind it require JavaScript!
Video-/Audioplayer
Video and audio playback is browser-dependent.
The video and audio playback is determined solely by your installed browser/browser version.
The new browser releases (Internet Explorer9 +, Firefox5 +, Opera 10+, Safari 5+ and chrome 10+) offer "by nature" all required video and audio capabilities; all videos are played in FullHD without additional programs (E.g.: plugins). For audio files are rendering functions provided too.
If you have installed an old version of Internet Explorer (7 or 8), the videos will shown in Microsoft format with Windows Media Player plugin. Attention: The plugin only works correctly with "ActiveX"!
To turn "Active-X" on, perform:
(IE-Options -- Security -- ActiveX-Controls/Plugins = "Activate")
.
Videos in "outdated" flash format (necessary for older browsers than above) will
not displayed
by this Web site!
For some audio files, however (i.e. for the "Cretan music" - button on the hompage), I apply in all browsers the
Macromedia Flash Player plugin
from Adobe. According to Adobe (true or not!) 97% of all users on the Web
have his Flash Player (version 9 +) already installed.
You certainly belong to these users!?
Working with
Microsoft-Edge Browser
(Windows 10) you possibly must enable the Adobe player first.
(Settings -- View advanced settings -- Use Adobe Flash Player = "on")
.
Cookies:
Cookies are no spies, so they can remain blocked.
a) Cookies are small information text files, which are written/stored on the PC of the Web visitor by a
visited website. Only the writing Web page reads its own Cookies later again!
b) Cookies only have a name, an info box and an expiration / deletion date.
Often the info box is taken from a form, that the visitor filled in previously.
c) Some examples of the normal use of cookies:
- A form field "First / last name" can be used to welcome the visitors personally during their next visit.
- As a list of goods; all articles of a shopping cart are often stored as cookies.
d) Within my Web site "Meinkreta" the slide show pages use Cookies, to annoy the visitors only once
(at the 1. visit) with the necessary operating remarks. You basically can let the option "Set Cookies"
in the browser remain shut down; the then existing lower comfort can be omitted.
